Watch as motorist in Forest of Dean drives on pavement to avoid recycling van

Video footage has captured a car driving down a pavement in Forest of Dean as it overtakes two vehicles. The video shows a car overtaking a bin lorry and another driver who is waiting to pass the lorry. Captured by driver Donna Cairney, it happened on September 18 on Temple Way West in Lydney.

Donna said: “This [car] was obviously late for work this morning and didn’t want to wait for the recycling truck to move a few more feet! Thank god there was no children coming out of their gate to go to school!” The law on driving on the pavement is clear in the UK’s Highway Code.

According to Rule 145, Section 72 of the Highway Code, which states: “You MUST NOT drive on or over a pavement, footpath or bridleway except to gain lawful access to property, or in the case of an emergency.” Have you witnessed and captured any surprising driving lately?
