2 brothers killed in early morning Route 21 crash

Two brothers from Newark were identified Thursday afternoon as the pair that died in an early morning crash on Route 21, authorities said.

Rodger Narainsammy, 22, was sitting in front passenger seat and Robert Narainsammy, 26, was in the back seat when a black Acura they were in crashed into the back of a dump truck at 2:25 a.m. near Lafayette Street in Newark, according to a joint statement from the Newark Police and Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The brothers were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The 32-year-old driver of the Acura survived and the dump truck driver walked away uninjured and remained on the scene, the office said.

The crash remained under investigation Thursday afternoon, officials said.

A GoFundMe apparently created by brothers’ older sister, Melissa Narainsammy, called the them “loving souls.”

“We lost two very loving souls who left a mother, a father, a sister, a brother and two nephews,” Melissa wrote on the page. “Please keep my family in your prayers during this devastating time.”
