Car mows down truck driver and helper on e-way

GREATER NOIDA: A driver of a truck and his helper died after a speeding car mowed them down while they were changing tyres of their vehicle on the Yamuna Expressway in the early hours of Sunday, the police said.
They said the deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Munna and 30-year-old Maniya, both from Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah.
The police said, three out of five occupants of the offending car, have also been injured in the accident.
The injured have been identified as 34-year-old driver Pankaj Garg, Paras Jain (36) and Vipin Garg, (35).
The accident took place around 5 am near Jewar on the Agra-bound road of the expressway.
“The two men who died were changing tyre of their vehicle near a petrol pump when the other car ran them over,” said station house officer (SHO) at Dankar, Anil Kumar Pandey. He added that the occupants of the car, including the driver and two others, were also injured.
The injured persons were rushed to a hospital by a police team patrolling.
“The doctors at the hospital declared the truck driver and his helper dead on arrival. We have informed the owners of the truck, who are from Bareilly in UP,” he said, adding that the injured persons will be questioned after they recover.
Spokesperson for Kailash Hospital, B.K Sharma, said the deceased had sustained severe injuries.
“Vipin and Pankaj have been admitted with several bruises, sprains and concussion.

They are recovering in the ICU, while the third person, Paras, was discharged after treatment of his minor injuries,” he said.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent for autopsy, said Pandey.
“We have not received any complaint in the matter till Sunday night.

An FIR will be registered once someone lodges a complaint,” the SHO said.
