Police rush to two HGV crashes on M6 near South Lakeland

Emergency services rushed to the scene of two separate HGV crashes on the M6 last night. The collisions had happened on the motorway at South Lakeland, near junction 36, at around 10.47pm last night(October 6). Cumbria Roads Police and fire crews attended with reports that two single vehicle crashes had occurred.

As emergency services arrived, they found the incidents involved two HGVs, a Daff Artic and Volvo Artic. The driver of the Daff was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary for minor injuries. Police closed the M6 for a short time while the vehicles were recovered safely, with an additional reports of a diesel spill on the road.

Lanes one and two were shut for safety reasons, said officers. Motorists were asked to drive safely and to the conditions, as torrential downpours battered the region yesterday. Roads were flooded and drivers faced difficult conditions following the huge amount of rain put down during the torrential downpours.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Roads Police initially said: “We are currently dealing with two separate HGV collisions south of Junction 36 on the M6. “We have lane 1 and 2 closed for safety. “Please drive safely and to the conditions.”

The force later added: “Police were contacted at 10:47pm on 6 October following two single vehicle collisions on the M6 Southbound, near Junction 36. “The collisions involved two HGVs, a Daff Artic and Volvo Artic. “The driver of the Daff was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary for minor injuries.

The M6 was closed for a short time to allow the vehicles to be recovered safely.  “It was reported that diesel had been spilled on the road.”
