Woman suffers serious head injuries after being hit by lorry on Kirkstall Road

A woman is in hospital with serious head injuries after she was hit by a lorry on a major Leeds road. The woman, who police are working to identify, was hit by a Dennis refuse wagon on the A65 Kirstall Road, near Leeds fire station, at 10.15am on Friday. Kirkstall Road (northbound) was closed from the A58 roundabout to the junction with Viaduct Road / Willow Road, with Specialist Forensic Collision Investigation officers who are carrying out extensive enquiries.

The closure caused heavy traffic from the A58 and Wellington Street.

West Yorkshire Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward. A statement said: “At about 10.15am today (Friday), a Dennis refuse wagon was travelling along Kirkstall Road away from the city centre, when it was in collision with a woman close to the fire station. “Enquiries are ongoing to identify the woman, who suffered serious head injuries and remains in hospital at this time.

“Any witnesses to the collision, or the movements of the woman or the lorry immediately prior to it, is asked to contact PC 6042 Gibson at the Eastern Roads Policing Unit on 101 or by using the contact options on the West Yorkshire Police website.

“Anyone with dash cam or mobile phone footage which can assist the investigation is also asked to get in touch, quoting log reference 438 of 30 October.”
