Greater Manchester and Lancashire could be hit with toughest Covid-19 controls

Greater Manchester and Lancashire could be the next regions to face Tier 3 lockdown restrictions after scientists called for greater controls to be imposed in some areas. The Government’s Joint Biosecurity Centre reportedly recommended most of North West and North East England, as well as parts of Yorkshire and the Midlands, should be moved into Tier 3. Amid mounting expectation that the region faces the toughest coronavirus measures, Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham is to hold talks with Number 10 this morning.

There have also been reports that London MPs will hold talks with a government minister, amid speculation that the capital will soon be placed into a higher coronavirus tier.

Johnson ‘disappointed’ by Brexit talks progress

Boris Johnson has “expressed his disappointment” about the progress of Brexit trade deal negotiations in a call with EU leaders, Downing Street said. Speaking with European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen and European Council president Charles Michel, the Prime Minister said he will reflect on the outcome of this week’s EU’s summit before setting out the UK’s next steps. Shortly after the call yesterday evening, Ms von der Leyen tweeted that there was “still a lot of work ahead of us” to reach a deal.

Donald and Melania Trump’s son Barron had Covid-19, says first lady

Donald and Melania Trump’s teenage son Barron tested positive for coronavirus not long after his parents but had no symptoms, the first lady has said.

She made the revelation in a lengthy note chronicling her personal experience with Covid-19, including being hit with a “roller coaster” of symptoms that she treated naturally with vitamins and healthy food. Mrs Trump said she is now negative and hopes to resume her duties soon. After she and President Trump tested positive earlier this month, the White House said 14-year-old Barron had tested negative.

‘Lond Covid’ may be affecting people in four different ways, according to a review into the long-lasting impact of Covid-19 infection.

This could explain why some people with persistent symptoms are not being believed or treated, the report suggested. There could be a huge psychological impact on those living with long-term coronavirus, the National Institute for Health Research study said.

Post Malone big winner at Billboard Music Awards

Post Malone was the big winner at the delayed 2020 Billboard Music Awards , taking home nine gongs including top artist. The annual ceremony was supposed to take place in Las Vegas in April but was shifted to Los Angeles in October as a result of the pandemic.

There was no audience inside Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre, leaving winners to address an eerily empty venue.
