Man, 28, dies after M62 crash involving pedestrian and a HGV

A man has died following a serious collision on the M62 last night. Emergency services were called to an area between Junctions 7 and 8 of the motorway, in the Rainhill area of Merseyside on Sunday afternoon, to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and an HGV. Merseyside Police have now confirmed that a 28-year-old man has sadly died.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this time. Police have launched an investigation. The motorway was closed in both directions for a time to allow an air ambulance to land.

One side later reopened, while the eastbound carriageway remained closed for a considerable period of time.
