Tributes paid to 'genuine, humble' lad from Wythenshawe killed in Cheshire car crash

Tributes have been paid to a ‘genuine, humble’ man from Wythenshawe who died in a crash in Cheshire. Aiden Smethurst, known as ‘Smevs’ lost his life after the Audi he was driving smashed in Siddington at around 2.05am yesterday (Thursday). Police have appealed for witnesses following the one-vehicle crash on Congleton Road.

Two women, aged 42 and 17, along with a 25-year old man, all of whom are from Manchester, were also taken to hospital. Two of the patients are believed to be have sustained serious injuries, a spokesman for Cheshire Police said. Friends paid tribute to Aiden following the tragedy.

In a Facebook post, Browney Brown said that everyone in Wythenshawe had ‘lost a good guy’.  Speaking to the Manchester Evening News , he added: “Very good guy and a good soul. “Looked after his family and friends.

Will be missed by us all, RIP Aiden.”

Another friend said: “RIP Aiden a genuine humble lad loved by so many and will missed by more, keep smiling my brother god bless you.” Aiden was known by the surname Smethurst but his official surname was Robinson, friends said. A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Officers are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a fatal collision in Siddington.

“At 2.05am on Thursday, November 19, police were called to reports of a collision on Congleton Road. “Officers attended the scene and found there had been a single vehicle collision involving a black Audi just south of the Monks Heath crossroads. “Sadly the driver of the vehicle, 26-year-old Aiden Robinson from Wythenshawe, died at the scene.”
