Careless HGV driver continues to travel towards Anglesey

A HGV driver has been reported for careless driving. About 5.30am on Friday, January 21, North Wales Police’s Roads Policing Unit received reports of a HGV having had a tyre blow out near to the Llanfairfechan roundabout. The HGV had continued to travel Westbound over the Britannia Bridge leaving tyre debris in the carriageway as it travelled along.

A short while later an officer located the HGV parked in Menai Bridge where it was discovered to have been driving on its rim with the mud guard missing and the brackets hanging against the suspension. The driver said he “wasn’t aware”. Picture: NWP Roads Policing Unit

He has since been reported for the offence of careless driving. Debris was removed from the carriageway as it posed a risk to other vehicles. NWP Roads Policing Unit posted on Facebook; “Doesn’t bear thinking what could have happened.

“As drivers, it it your responsibility to check your vehicle’s condition.

We advise that you regularly check your tyre pressures for under or over-inflation, and ensure that you are aware of your vehicles maximum load weight and don’t go over it.

“We also urge you to check for any obvious damage to the area of tread or the sidewalls for cuts, cracks or bulges.”
