Man seriously injured after van flips on its side in crash with truck

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a van flipped on its side in a crash in Bolton. Police were called to the incident in Syndale Way, Westhoughton, at about 11.10am this morning (Thursday, January 7). Officers say the vehicle overturned after being hit by a truck when the van stopped for a pedestrian.

The driver of the van suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital for further treatment.

The truck was also damaged in the crash

Following the incident, Snydale Way was shut northbound between the Chequerbent roundabout and junction 5 of the M61. Pictures from the scene show the damage to the van, which was shunted on to the pavement due to the impact of the smash. The truck also sustained damage to its front end.

The truck driver has been reported by police for driving without due care and attention.
