MORRISBURG – A truck driver has been killed in a crash between two transports on Highway 401 near Morrisburg Wednesday afternoon. It was one of two serious crashes SD&G O.P.P. dealt within hours of each other on a 20 kilometer stretch of the westbound side of the highway in South Dundas. Police say one truck crashed into the back of another truck around 3 p.m., killing the driver of the following truck.
The victim is described as a 46-year-old man. The other truck driver was not injured. It happened between Upper Canada Road and the Church Road overpass.
Earlier in the day around 11:30 a.m. and further west, police say a person who stepped out of their vehicle on the shoulder of the westbound Highway 401 in South Dundas (mile marker 742 – half way between the Brinston Road and Flagg Road overpasses) was hit by a passing tractor-trailer.
They are in hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries.
In both cases, the O.P.P. sent in traffic collision investigators to map the scenes.
