Truck driver dead in Highway 401 crash near Morrisburg

A truck driver is dead after two tractor trailers headed in the same direction collided on Highway 401 near Morrisburg on Wednesday afternoon. Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry OPP spokesman Const. Tylor Copeland said the collision happened shortly after 3 p.m. in the westbound lane between Upper Canada Road and Church Road, just east of Morrisburg.

An initial Investigation has indicated that a westbound tractor trailer collided with another westbound tractor trailer from behind. The reasons are under investigation. The 46-year-old driver of the tractor trailer that came from behind was pronounced dead at scene.

The driver of the tractor trailer in the lead was not injured. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry OPP and OPP traffic collision investigators remain at the scene.

A section of Highway 401 at Upper Canada Road westbound has been closed to traffic with detours in place.

It is not known when the road will reopen.
