Weight limit proposed on Winwick roads to prevent HGV use

HEAVY goods vehicles could be banned from travelling down certain roads in Winwick. Warrington Borough Council has proposed weight limits of 7.5 tonnes on the entire lengths of Golborne Road, Green Lane and Hermitage Green Lane. The restriction is also proposed for Parkside Road from its junction with Golborne Road to a point 90 metres south west of the boundary with St Helens Council.

Any vehicle over this weight limit will not be allowed access and must find alternate routes. In a statement of reasons, the council says that the routes are unsuitable for HGVs due to being historically narrow and unsuitable for widening. It is hoped that the weight limits will also encourage larger goods vehicles to use more appropriate roads in the town and improve air quality for residents.

Letters of support or objection to the weight limit orders must be submitted by email to rlee@warrington.gov.uk by January 28.

The council has also given notice that Skyline Drive will be closed to motorists between the junctions of Burtonwood Road and Fairchild Road from 7pm on Friday, January 15 to 5am on Monday, January 18.

This is to allow carriageway resurfacing work to take place.

A detour will be in place via Burtonwood Road, Whittle Avenue, Lingley Green Avenue and Omega Boulevard and vice versa.
