More police cruisers can be seen arriving on the scene as the man is taken into custody. Mooken said the man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, but it was not immediately clear whether those injuries were suffered during the fight at the plaza or during the police interaction. It’s also unknown if this incident may be related to an ongoing tow truck turf war, which has involved shootings and seen tow trucks torched across the GTA.

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in. We apologize, but this video has failed to load.

The man, whose identity has not been released, faces several charges. “The SIU is investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest of a 35-year-old man by Peel Regional Police officers yesterday in Brampton,” said spokesperson Monica Hudon, adding she will have more information next week. “Following the arrest, the man was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a serious injury.”

The SIU’s mandate is to investigate conduct of police officers responding to calls that have resulted in death, serious injury, or alleged sexual assault.
