Hollywood royalty Dame Judi Dench 'very proud' Bracknell food lorry has been named after her

Dame Judi Dench is Hollywood royalty. One of the country’s most decorated stars, she has done it all in the world of film and television She has won Academy Awards, Golden Globes, BAFTA awards and Emmy awards.

But now she has added to her list of accolades, and said how proud she is one of Bracknell Forest Council’s new food waste trucks has been named after her.

The 86-year-old industry legend, who was made a dame in 1988, recorded a short video to say thanks to the people of Bracknell who took part in a competition to name the council’s new food waste trucks.

The trucks are called Dame Foodie Dench, Binderella, Truck Norris, The Food Dude and Hank Marvin. They will be used to collect the new food bins, which have been introduced in the borough. There are some concerns over the new bins, with a petition launched urging the council to reconsider its decision to only collect regular waste once every three weeks.

People living in Great Hollands raised concerns over things like nappies and pet waste festering in their bins for that long.

Nonetheless, Dame Judi has thanked the people of Bracknell for choosing the name. She said: “I’ve been called lots of names and I’ve played lots of people but I’ve never been called ‘Dame Foodie Dench’ and I’m very proud to be so on the front of the food waste collection lorry. Thank you.”

Food waste caddies are being delivered around the borough until the end of the month before the new scheme starts in March.
