LIVE M6 remains shut 15 hours after serious crash involving fuel tanker
Statement from Highways England
Highways England have released an official statement. It reads: “The M6 in Cheshire is closed southbound between J18 and J16 and northbound between J16 – J17 due to 2 separate incidents on the southbound carriageway. One involving a tanker which has leaked diesel on to both sides of the carriageway and the second incident involving a heavy goods vehicle, car and a van which have had a serious collision.
North West Motorway Police Group, emergency services, Air Ambulance and Highways England Traffic Officers are currently on scene. Road users travelling northbound are advised to follow the Solid Triangle diversion signs. Exit J16 then at the A500 roundabout take the first exit and follow the A500 (westbound).
At the A500/A5020 roundabout take the third exit and follow the A5020 (northbound). At the A5020/A534 roundabout take the third exit and follow the A534 (eastbound). At the A534/M6 J17 roundabout re-join the M6 northbound.
Road users travelling southbound are advised to follow the Solid Square diversion signs. Exit the M6 at J18. At the roundabout take the first exit and follow the A54 (eastbound, Middlewitch Road).
At the A54/A50 junction turn right on to the A50 (southbound, Newcastle Road). At the A50/A534 junction turn right on to the A534 (westbound, Congleton Road). At the A534/M6 J17 you would normally re-join however the closure is to J16.
At this point Road users should then follow the Hollow Circle diversion signs from J17 turn right on to the A534 (westbound). At the A534/A5020 roundabout take the second exit and follow the A5020 (southbound). At the A5020/A500 roundabout take the first exit and follow the A500 (eastbound).
At the A600/M6 junction roundabout take the fourth exit and re-join the M6 at J16.”
