Nantwich layby being used for dumping

Council chiefs have hit out at people using a Nantwich bypass as a makeshift toilet after human waste was found there. As well as plastic bottles and food containers, there has been evidence of used toilet roll and excrement discovered. One driver who occasionally uses the stop off said he often saw truckers laying up their wagons there overnight, destined, he believed for pick ups and drop offs at industrial units around the area.

The driver, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s disgusting. There’s used toilet paper, human waste and empty takeaway and drinks containers everywhere. The council seems to have put bins there but they’re clearly not being used properly.

“As I understand it a lot of them are hanging around waiting to pick up and deliver from big factories in Crewe and the area.

“They’re obviously not using the truck stops because they cost money, so they’re doing this here. “People using the side of the road as a toilet is just not acceptable. A Cheshire East Council spokesperson said: “The council has been made aware of this matter and the wholly unacceptable conduct of a minority of people, who are selfishly despoiling the environment and leaving local taxpayers to foot the bill for cleaning up the mess.

“The council takes littering very seriously and will consider prosecuting offenders where there is sufficient evidence to do so.

“We urge people to act responsibly and considerately and take their waste and rubbish home with them for proper disposal.”
