Truck driver to be charged with murder of four-year-old stepdaughter
SEREMBAN: A 30-year-old cement truck driver, detained since Feb 9 for allegedly abusing and causing the death of his four-year-old stepdaughter, will be charged with her murder at the Tampin Magistrate’s Court on Friday (Feb 19).
Tampin OCPD Supt Anuwal Ab Wahab said police have concluded their probe and forwarded the investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor’s office.
“The DPP’s office has agreed to charge the suspect with murder under section 302 of the Penal Code,” he said.
The offence carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
Police initially received a doctor’s report on the victim who died on Feb 1 from the Gemas health clinic.
Results of a post-mortem conducted at the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital here later found that she had suffered serious injuries to the head, bruises on her wrists and legs, and bite marks on her body.
Three of her ribs on the left side were also broken.
Dental specialists from the Kuala Lumpur Hospital also confirmed that there were adult bite marks on her right hand, shoulder and wrist.
The Forensics Department also confirmed that her head injury was caused by a blunt object.
The man was arrested while waiting for his wife and another nine-year-old stepson who were called to give a statement at the police station on Feb 9.
The suspect was arrested after the victim’s brother told police that she was often beaten by her stepfather.
