A127 traffic: Photos show fire crews at scene of crash which shut road

Photos have emerged from the scene of a crash which has shut the A127. Emergency services rushed to the A127 Southend Arterial Road westbound carriageway this morning (April 23), following reports of an overturned recovery vehicle. Essex County Fire and Rescue service alongside Essex Police attended the crash between A129 Rayleigh Road (Rayleigh Weir) and A1245 (Fairglen Interchange) just before 11.30am.

Parts of the A127 were partially blocked due to the incident, with traffic queueing for three miles back. Essex Police confirmed that the incident was due to a vehicle and trailer which had become detached from the back of the recovery truck. Thankfully, no injuries were reported and the road reopened shortly after the incident.

The road was blocked due to the crash

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: “We were contacted by fire brigade colleagues at around 11.30am today (Friday, April 23) following an incident on the A127 between Rayleigh Weir and Fairglen. “It was reported that a vehicle and trailer had come off the back of a recovery truck. “Fire brigade also attended.

“No reported injuries. “Road reopened just after 12.30pm.” An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision on the A127 at Rayleigh Weir at 11.23am.

“On arrival, crews reported that a recovery vehicle had overturned. Nobody was trapped inside the vehicle and firefighters remained on scene to move the vehicle and make the scene safe by 12pm.” Photos of emergency services dealing with the crash have emerged on social media.

The photographs show fire vehicles tending to the crash and blocking the road while emergency services deal with the incident.

The road has since reopened since the accident, but traffic delays due to the aftermath of the crash continue into this afternoon.
