Live updates as lorry smashes into railings closing road in Bootle

A lorry full of catering supplies has smashed into railings sparking road closures in Bootle. Pictures from the ECHO’s Andy Teebay show the lorry cabin badly damaged and partially ripped from the vehicle. The side is caved in and it appears to be wedged in railings on Breeze Hill which has been closed both ways.

Police are at the scene and the road is closed between Hawthorne Road and Balliol Road East say travel monitors INRIX. Our photographer at the scene has been told the driver has avoided injury.

Replacement lorries have turned up to remove the supplies from the damaged truck which is carrying the name of catering supplies firm Bunzl. Merseyside Police have been asked for official word.

Buses are being diverted.
