M6 shut for five hours after lorry sheds load of 35 tonnes of washing machines

A driver suffered minor injuries in a crash that sent 35 tonnes of washing machines spilling out onto the M6. The busy stretch of carriageway between junction 15, Stoke-on-Trent, and junction 16, for the A500 and Radway Green, was closed from 4.20am until 9am. Residual delays remained in the area throughout large parts of the morning after the lorry overturned at the junction and blocked the carriageway.

Police and paramedics attended the scene. West Midlands Ambulance Service has confirmed the driver sustained injuries but declined further treatment at hospital. A spokesman said: “We were called at 4.25am to the northbound carriageway of the M6 near Junction 15 entry slip to reports of an overturned HGV.

“An ambulance and paramedic officer attended and arrived to find the driver, a man, out of the vehicle. “The man was assessed and found with minor injuries. He declined hospital treatment and was discharged on scene.”
