M62 traffic at standstill as Carling beer truck bursts into flames

Drivers are being warned to expect delays on the M62 this afternoon after traffic was stopped along the Pennines due to a lorry fire. Traffic is being held on the westbound carriageway between junction 21 for Milnrow and junction 22 for Rishworth. Motorists heading towards Greater Manchester from West Yorkshire are being urged to leave the motorway at junction 22.

: School evacuated as police search for ‘suspicious device’ In a post on Twitter, a Transport for Greater Manchester spokesperson said: “M62 traffic stopped westbound between Rishworth and Milnrow. “This is due to a vehicle fire.

“Delays highly likely, please exit the M62 at junction 22 to continue your journey.” Traffic has been stopped since around 1.10pm due to a lorry fire near junction 21 at Milnrow, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system. Heavy congestion is expected to continue throughout the afternoon.

Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service have been approached for comment.
