Suppliers will now be asked to include Carbon Reduction Plans within their bids for major government contracts.
To help the UK Government achieve its ‘Net Zero’ target, a new Procurement Policy Note (PPN) has created the need for Central Government Departments, their Executive Agencies and Non Departmental Public Bodies to take account of suppliers’ Carbon Reduction Plans for the procurement of major Government contracts. Suppliers will need to demonstrate their commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2050 in the UK, and provide details of the environmental management measures that will be in use when fulfilling the contract. Draft strategy sets out how Edinburgh will strive to become a climate ready, net zero Capital by 2030
The Council has set out a city-wide approach to reducing Edinburgh’s greenhouse gas emissions as part of new plans being considered by Councillors to tackle climate change in the Capital. Included within this strategy are plans to:
? Trial two net-zero neighbourhoods
?

Create a city heat and energy partnership
? Retrofit public buildings. 
? Expand the City Climate Compact to help SMEs transition to sustainable businesses practices.
?

Create EV charging hubs

Thirty towns to share GBP725 million to help communities build back better

Funding announced for 30 towns in England to boost their local economies, create jobs and help them build back better from the pandemic. These Towns Deals will help breathe new life into neglected areas or unused buildings by creating vibrant spaces for businesses, community events or much needed new homes.

Cornwall will receive new investment under plans announced by the Prime Minister to create a long-term legacy from the G7 Summit, and will benefit from the following projects:
? creation of a new network of foot and cycle paths 
? restoration and expansion of community hubs
? land restoration and regeneration across 21,000 hectares of land
? making Cornwall the first net zero region of the UK

Major River Thames flood alleviation project passes key milestone
The River Thames Scheme will reduce the flood risk for 11,000 homes and 1,600 businesses in communities along the river. The outline business case has been approved, unlocking the first GBP60m of the scheme’s funding so that detailed design and planning work can begin.
The GBP501m River Thames Scheme will see two new flood relief channels constructed at Runnymede and Spelthorne, together with capacity increases at Sunbury, Molesey and Teddington weirs and the Desborough Cut. The scheme’s wider benefits will include new walking and cycle paths, parks and wildlife habitats.

Social investment pilot to fund over 200 homes for rough sleepers
More rough sleepers and people at risk of homelessness will be supported into accommodation through a new GBP30m social investment pilot that will create over 200 move-on homes. The pilot will provide homes in Greater Manchester, London and Teesside with a smaller number of other homes provided in areas across England. Tailored support from charities and social enterprises that specialise in housing vulnerable people will be available to help residents maintain their tenancies, including addiction services, education and employment support and counselling.
