Thugs slash each other with machetes in mass brawl on day of violence in London

Thugs slashed at each with giant blades during a broad daylight confrontation in south east London yesterday, leaving one man fighting for his life. Police rushed to the scene in north Greenwich as neighbours screamed for the four brawlers to stop as they attacked each other with what appeared to be a kitchen carving knife, a machete and a hammer. Footage shot by an onlooker shows the horrifying scene as the men lunge at each other, with one topless and barefoot, and a weapon in each hand.

Nearby residents dashed to their balconies as the street argument escalated, and a woman shouts: “It’s not worth it, stop it. F***ing stop it, all of you.” At one stage, the topless man wielding the machete and hammer appears to slash another brawler’s wrist who in turn jabs at his face.

As a bin collection truck pulls up, the fighters move around and the driver is forced to flee. “There were four guys – they got into a fight and all of them had a knife,” a witness told The Sun.

“One of them had a machete almost 20 inches long.

“It looked like three of the guys were fighting the fourth. They all seemed to be on the same side, apart from him.” They said the fight took place in an area of around 200 metres and lasted up to eight minutes, and included the men throwing bottles at each other.

One of those involved was described as being “in a bad way” by the witness. Police were called to the scene in Barge Walk – a residential area full of families – just before 4.30pm on Wednesday.

The force is appealing for anyone with information to come forward. A spokesperson confirmed a man was found at the scene with apparent stab wounds and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

They added that no arrests have been made as enquiries continue. It came hours before a man in his 20s was found was gunshot and knife wounds less than eight miles away in Brixton, south London, in a separate incident. An unnamed 17-year-old male was later arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody, the Met has confirmed today.

Police officers were pelted with missiles at the scene in Moorland Road, as they carried out investigations on Wednesday evening.

Police were called to the scene at 9.37pm by the London Ambulance Service and the patient was taken to a south London hospital with potentially life changing injuries.
