M4 closed in both directions after crash involving three lorries

A serious accident involving three lorries shut the M4 in both directions near Cardiff on Tuesday. South Wales Police closed the motorway in both directions for a number of hours between junction 30 Cardiff Gate and junction 32 Coryton. One person has been taken to the University Hospital of Wales for treatment.

Their condition is not yet known. There was debris on the road following the incident as one of the lorries hit the central reservation. Traffic monitoring system Inrix reported that the air ambulance landed at the scene.

A witness nearby said he heard something that sounded like an “explosion”.
