Amazon driver fined after post-work crash

Laszlo Manyi’s Vauxhall Vectra hit a parked car in West End, Whittlesey. Appearing at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday (August 16), the 40-year-old pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention on January 24 this year and failing to report an accident. The court was told that the Honda Jazz which was hit was later declared a write-off.

Andy Cave, mitigating, said it was snowing at the time and there was ice on the road. “He wasn’t exceeding the speed limit, he just hit some ice,” said the solicitor. The court was told that, following the collision, Manyi parked around the corner but could not locate the Jazz’s owner.

He then drove home to nearby Wakelyn Road and walked back to the scene with his dog. By then the car had been removed. Mr Cave said: “He doesn’t know what happened with it.

He informed Admiral Insurance the following morning. Not contacting the police was more naivety than avoidance. “He works for Amazon driving big trucks.

He hopes to retain his job.”

For failing to report the accident, Manyi was given six penalty points on his licence.

He was fined GBP350 for each of the two offences and ordered to pay GBP85 costs and GBP70 victim surcharge.
