The one road catching HGV drivers out for breaking highway code
THREE DRIVERS of heavy goods vehicles have been caught for breaching weight restrictions. Roads have weight restrictions to prevent damage to roads and to prevent the risk to drivers. This month, Public Protection Partnership (PPP) officers found three traffic weight restriction breaches in Mill Lane, Newbury, West Berkshire.
Mill Lane in Newbury is subject to a 7.5 tonne weight restriction to protect local residents on Mill Lane from the industrial area along Hambridge Road and Bone Lane. The PPP, who enforce weight restriction orders under the Road Traffic Regulation Act, issued three fines for different breaches at Mill Lane totalling GBP1,150. : Police fine drivers for parking on footpaths and junctions in Reading

The driver pleaded guilty by post and the Court fined him GBP450. The PPP said: “It is an offence to drive a vehicle through a restricted area where the vehicle exceeds the weight limit imposed (unless delivering or collecting items within the weight restriction). Routine inspections are undertaken on weight restrictions across Bracknell, West Berkshire and Wokingham areas to ensure vehicles are not breaking the law.
“PPP officers also undertake routine patrols with Thames Valley Police to check for overweight vehicles on the roads.”
If your vehicle is seen breaching a weight restriction or it is found to be overloaded you may be prosecuted.
