Family informed as driver ‘seriously injured’ in crash near Wellington

POLICE have just issued this update (at 4.47pm, Monday, September 27) to the collision earlier today. “Emergency services are at the scene of a collision involving a Toyota 4 x 4 and a lorry on the A38 Wellington, near the Beambridge Inn, which happened at around 11.20am today (Monday 27 September). “The male driver of the Toyota has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

His family have been made aware. “Two passengers in the vehicle sustained injuries that are not thought to be life threatening/changing at this time. “The road is currently closed in both directions from the Perry Elm roundabout to the Beambridge Inn while enquiries are conducted at the scene, and is expected to remain closed for some time.

Diversions are in place. “Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 5221225308.” Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire control mobilised two fire engines and a heavy rescue vehicle to a report of a road traffic collision between a lorry and a pick up truck, with possibly people trapped.

“On arrival crews confirmed there was a collision and there was one person still physically trapped and two walking wounded. “Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to release the casualty and they were handed over to the ambulance paramedics.” A MAIN road on the outskirts of Wellington is likely to be closed for several hours following a serious collision.

Police have sealed off a section of the A38 at Beambridge following this morning’s crash (Monday, September 27). The road is closed between the Perry Elms roundabout and the Beambridge Inn. Drivers are being advised to find an alternative route and to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Wellington Neighbourhood Policing within the last hour said: “The road will remain closed for a number of hours.”
