Lorry driver deliberately rams into family home and completely destroys building

A lorry driver deliberately rammed his truck into a family home before reversing, hitting it again and then fleeing the scene. Emergency services raced to the house in East Kilbride, in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, on Monday night after the lorry rammed into a house. Police have confirmed they are investigating following the incident, which they believe was deliberate.

Residents were evacuated from the destroyed house following the incident, before police went in to retrieve the family’s possessions. One shocked witness told the Daily Record of how the truck “hit the house, reversed and then hit it again” before “fleeing up the street”.

The lorry which was driven into a property in East Kilbride was found abandoned in a Lidl supermarket car park nearby

Another nearby neighbour said: “We stay in the street behind it and there’s a lot of noise just now banging and drilling. “It sounds like they’re maybe trying to stabilise the foundations to get the family’s things out.”

Another neighbour said : “I seen all the lights flashing and looked out but we assumed it was a fire as there was a fire engine. “Everyone was out on the street.”

Another local said they heard the commotion on the street, which was usually quite quiet, late last night. “I heard a loud bang and I heard her (the woman who lives in the house) shouting,” they said.

A heavy goods vehicle thought to be involved in the incident was found abandoned in a nearby supermarket car park, with police tape round it and a police patrol car next to it.
