Alan Durkin

Alan Durkin

Mr Alan Durkin, of Broadway, Helmshore, a retired police sergeant, passed away on Thursday, December 9, at Royal Blackburn Hospital, with his family by his side, aged 73. He leaves wife Lynne, daughters Hayley and Cathy, and granddaughters Georgia and Gracie.

A service and cremation will be held on Wednesday, December 29, at 11am at Accrington Crematorium. Family flowers only are requested, with donations, if desired, to Dementia UK via the funeral director Caroline Holden-Dewhurst for Johnson Durning and Woods, Haslingden.

Kathleen Taylor

With deep sadness, the family of Kathleen Mary Taylor, nee Finn, of Oswaldtwistle, announce her death on Monday, December 6, in the Royal Blackburn Hospital, at the age of 80. She died peacefully, without pain, with her loving family by her side.

Kathleen was a loving wife to Alan for 61 years. She was a devoted loving mother to her daughters Julie and Susan, and mother-in-law to Francis – all of whom she was very proud. Kathleen had an abundance of love for her grandson Joe and his wife Denise, granddaughter Beth, and great-grandsons Sam, Alfie, and Reuben.

Kathleen was born and grew up in Accrington, the daughter of the late Jack and Kathleen Finn, and sister to Gerald, Tony, Pauline, Bill, twin Jacqueline and John. She will be very sadly missed by all her family and friends. Kathleen began her working life as a hairdresser at Maison Jacqueline in Warner Street, Accrington; after getting married she began her own successful hairdressing business.

Her working life also included Rists Wires, the hairdressing department at Accrington & Rossendale College, Abbode Cafe, Accrington, and Peggy’s Cafe in the Market Hall. Kathleen touched the lives of many with her kind heart and generosity of spirit. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, and gentle, loving nature.

Her requiem will be held at St Mary’s RC Church, Oswaldtwistle, on Thursday, December 23, at 10am, followed by cremation at Accrington Cemetery, led by Fr Sean O’Brien. Family flowers only; donations may be made to Parkinson’s UK or Cancer Research UK c/o funeral director Hyndburn Funeral Services, Oswaldtwistle.

Andrea Ainsworth

Mrs Andrea Ainsworth, nee Corcoran, of Oswaldtwistle, peacefully in her husband’s arms after a 12-month battle with cancer, aged 53. Andrea worked at Rists Wires, onto Stockley’s, and then spent the past 15 years as a housewife and a mother, looking after her children.

Andrea loved socialising with friends, dancing, and having a laugh. She loved bird watching, baking, and cooking. Her favourite thing to do more than anything was be a devoted mother to her children.

Andrea was outgoing, and loved to have a dance with the girls when she could. Her presence lit up the whole room like nobody else’s ever could; whenever Andrea was close, everyone was happy. She leaves devoted husband Graham, children Daniel, Dominic, Caitlin, Alisha, and Ebony, doting parents Colin and Irene, loved by everyone who knew her.

One of a kind who will be very dearly missed. The funeral will be held on Monday, December 20, at 10.30am at Immanuel Church, New Lane, with burial in the churchyard after, led by Rev Martin Joss. The wake is at Oswaldtwistle Conservative Club.

Mourners are asked to wear traditional funeral wear, with green incorporated, as it was Andrea’s favourite colour. Family flowers only; donations if desired to Macmillan Nurses and Prestige Nursing. Funeral director: Hyndburn Funeral Services, Oswaldtwistle.

Keith Ryder

Beautiful tributes to special Hyndburn people who died recentlyKeith Ryder

Mr Keith Vincent Ryder, of Eccles, passed away on Sunday, December 5, aged 65.

The beloved son of the late Vincent and Margaret, father of David and Peter, brother of Karen and
her husband Alan, Keith also leaves five grandchildren. A hard working man, after attending Holy Family school, Keith began his career as a mechanic at Rothwell’s, before moving to Moseley’s Bakery, and then spent many years as a forklift truck engineer, spending the last 26 years working for Sodexo at Trafford Park. He was highly thought of by all his colleagues, and was known as a character with a great sense of humour.

In his spare time he enjoyed fishing on the canal, holidays at his caravan, organising his fantasy football team and horse racing. He was also a supporter of Burnley Football Club. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

The funeral will be at Accrington Crematorium on Wednesday, December 22 at 1.40pm. Family flowers only. Funeral director: Hyndburn Funeral Services, Oswaldtwistle.
