Every update as lorry driver sentenced for causing horror A1 crash
A lorry driver has been sentenced today after admitting causing the death of three people in a horror multi-vehicle smash on the A1(M) in County Durham. Paul Mullen, 51, from Washington , and Seaham couple Elaine Sullivan, 59, and David Daglish, 57, were tragically killed in the major crash, which happened at junction 61, Bowburn. Lorry driver, Ion Nicu Onut was subsequently arrested following the fatal crash on July 15 and charged with three counts of causing death by dangerous driving.
In December, the 41-year-old appeared at Durham Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to the charges.
Onut, of Woodstock Avenue, Galashiels, in the Scottish Borders, was jailed for eight years and 10 months.
