A1 traffic queues for 5 miles after closure following lorry crash
Traffic was forced to queue for up to five miles due to a closure on a section of the A1. A stretch of the northbound carriageway was closed after an accident involving three lorries at around 11.40am on Monday, May 30. The closure stretched from Markham Moor to Upper Morton.
This resulted in heavy congestion travelling north on the A1 from Newark and south on the A638 from Retford. Traffic monitoring website Inrix said: “A1 Worksop Road Northbound closed, queueing traffic for five miles due to emergency repairs and earlier accident, three lorries involved from B1164 (Markham Moor) to Twyford Lane (Elkesley). Congestion to Tuxford.
Traffic is also queueing on the A638 through Gamston and Retford and on the A614 through Ollerton as traffic diverts. “The road was closed at around 11:40 this morning following an accident involving three lorries. Recovery is complete but the road remains closed for resurfacing following a fuel spillage Affecting traffic between Newark-on-Trent and Worksop.
