Recap: Westlink reopens after lorry fire

Emergency services were at the scene of a vehicle blaze on the Westlink for a number of hours on Monday afternoon. A large lorry was on fire just before the Clifton Street off slip, on the citybound side of the motorway. Large plumes of smoke were causing visibility issues for motorists in the area.

At the time, a PSNI spokesperson said: “It is anticipated that the Westlink will be closed in both directions imminently to allow NIFRS to deal with the fire.” In an update, several hours later, police said: “The Westlink has now fully reopened, following the closure of the city bound lanes in response to a large goods vehicle on fire. “We would like to thank all persons affected for their patience throughout this incident.”
