Video shows aftermath of M40 lorry fire that caused major delays
There were long queues on the M40 in Oxfordshire resulting from a lorry that caught fire yesterday (May 12). Vehicles were reported to have been stuck on the major motorway for up to two hours. Several firefighters from both Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire were sent to the scene.
Appliances and crews came from Thame, Wheatley, High Wycombe, Amersham, Slade Park, Oxford and Maidenhead. First reported at 11am, the fire was found to have affected a nearby embankment and a motorway sign. The incident took place on the southbound carriageway, between J6 B4009 (Watlington) and J5 A40 Ibstone Road (Stokenchurch), and it was closed for most of the day.

A Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “All carriageways of the motorway were closed while the firefighters established a water shuttle and tackled the fire. “The firefighters used four sets of breathing apparatus, two main jets, two hose reel jets, small gear. The fire affected the motorway embankment, and a highways sign.
National Highways were also in attendance.” BigCraig77 on social media shared a video, showing the aftermath of the blaze. In the video, the charred lorry can be seen along with firefighters who had been working on the vehicle.
