Cheap petrol prices in Oxfordshire today

Petrol prices have passed the psychological barrier of GBP100 to fill up a standard tank, in what has been labelled as a “depressing” day for motorists around the country. Prices have been rising steadily for months, and the government has faced calls to either cut VAT on fuel or cut the fuel duty further in order to help motorists deal with rising prices which have coincided with the wider cost of living crisis. So far Boris Johnson’s Government has resisted, with some suggesting that part of the problem is that retailers of petrol haven’t passed on the 5p per litre fuel duty cut that Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced in March.

Business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has asked the Competition and Markets Authority to examine the issue. At the same time, he has urged petrol retailers around the country to make sure they are passing the saving onto consumers via the price of their product. However, RAC’s fuel spokesman Simon Williams believes the government still needs to do more. He said: “March’s 5p fuel duty cut now looks paltry as wholesale petrol costs have already increased by five-times that amount since March.” Mr Williams added that the breaching of the GBP100 barrier was a significant one for UK households. “While fuel prices have been setting new records on a daily basis, households up and down the country may never have expected to see the cost of filling an average-sized family car reach three figures.”

In light of this, here are some of the cheapest places you can fill up your tank around Oxfordshire today if you can’t avoid using your car until things calm down a bit.

As always, it’s best to shop around for these things, but be mindful about how far you might need to travel to fill up, as you’ll be burning fuel on your journey there.
