Dash-cam footage of car stuck under lorry and dragged along A38

Shocking dash cam footage shows the terrifying moment a car appears to get wedged under the back of a lorry’s trailer unit and is dragged along the A38. The truck driver appears oblivious as the car is struck at first after the car got too close and the bonnet gets jammed at speed under lorry’s safety bars. After some time the silver Ford Focus manages to break itself loose before swerving onto the grass verge, and back on to the carriageway near Branston, Burton on Trent, before coming to a stop.

Extensive damage was sustained to the front of the car which was caved in by the collision with the safey bars on the back of the trailer unit known as the rear under-run. Another motorist was able to capture the shocking footage on his dash-cam and told Staffordshire Live how he could not believe what he was seeing as the incident unfolded on Friday, June 10. The driver said that at first he thought the car was tailgating the lorry but was horrified to realise it was trapped and being dragged along by the vehicle.

Then they seemed to have sped up and went into the back of the lorry and it looked like they was been pulled along by its safety bar.

“When they hit the lorry I’m assuming their airbags went off because you can see them at the end of the video in the cabin of the car. Maybe the airbags dazed the male driver which is why he kept driving after the impact. But the swerving beforehand and the crash into the lorry, and to still keep going after that, we assumed it was a drunk driver at the start but it could’ve been something medical.

“You can see a grey SUV at the end of the footage pull two lanes over and the driver of that car got out and went over to the focus and opened the drivers door and checked on the man.” Other drivers who saw the incident all stopped to check on the Focus driver and the truck also stops after realising it has been hit from behind. The driver of the Focus, miraculously seemed to be unhurt, but their car is trashed at the front.

The footage, lasting one minute and 23 seconds, was shot on the A38, Lichfield Road, heading towards Branston. The lorry stops in a layby as the Focus initially drives on before coming to a complete stop on the carriageway. The footage was taken at 1.22pm on Friday.
