Firefighters tackle Stoke-on-Trent fireball

Firefighters were called to a major Stoke-on-Trent road after a blaze broke out in a bin. Images from the scene on Leek New Road, in Sneyd Green, show the flames reaching the height of nearby houses. The alarm was raised at 3.15pm on Saturday (June 4).

A Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman has confirmed that the blaze was extinguished by a crew from Sandyford. The spokesman said: “Firefighters were called to Leek New Road at 3.15pm on Saturday following reports of a bush fire. Crews from Sandyford attended the scene and located a public bin which was emitting smoke.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
