Scottish Street Food Awards sees Glasgow food spot go for Best in Scotland crown
The prestigious Scottish Street Food Awards are almost upon us and one hugely popular Glasgow eatery has been shortlisted for the Best in Scotland prize. For the first time in two years, the ‘expansive festival of street food’, which will see a ‘three-day celebration of Scottish culinary talent’, will be held in person at Edinburgh’s excellent Pitt Market. There, Scotland’s Street Food Award champion for 2022 will also be crowned, with the finalists announced this week.
: 10 takeaways compete for Best of Glasgow prize at Scotland food awards Attendees will be able to eat, drink and vote across the weekend as one of the capital’s pioneering events venue plays host to the 10 street food vendors, hailing from across Scotland.

And representing Glasgow will be the brilliant Kochchi, suppliers of Sri Lankan eats such as Hot Butter King Prawns and Kotthu (chopped flatbread and fresh veggies seared in a wok and drenched in homemade curry). You may have seen them serving up their sensational authentic Sri Lankan scran at the likes of The Big Feed in Glasgow or at the TRNSMT Festival.
They’ll be joined by the reigning champion, vegan Mexican food truck Antojitos, which will appear alongside a lineup of other esteemed vendors:
Lemon Squeezy – an Edinburgh-based food truck that peddles fresh and frequently citrussy flatbreads and ciabattas, filled with anything from pulled beef to hummus and marinated mushrooms
Ox & Anchor – Pittenweem purveyors of fresh local produce in the form of such delights as potato hash with seabass, and ‘smash burgers’
CHICKEN SKOOP – the UK’s original ‘chick’ in’ cone’ – buttermilk fried chicken heaped in waffle cones

Don Guero Taqueria – whose Mexican delights cover tacos, tortas, mulitas and gorditas
Falafel Stop – a local food truck delivering fresh, homemade falafel and hummus prepared to a family recipe
Typhoon Ten – Edinburgh residents who bill their fare as ‘vegan filth’: dirty, BBQ jackfruit topped fries and more

Junk – a sophisticated take on fast fried food, created and plated by Cameron Laidlaw
Tagliotello – a fresh pasta truck hailing from Inverness
The Funnel Cake Co. – whose launch at The Pitt earlier this year made many fans of their doughnut-like confections
Following the English and Welsh heats, Scottish winners will have the opportunity to compete in the British Street Food Awards, and potentially go on to the European iteration. For the first time, an American event is also promised, offering winners the chance to take their eats to the global stage.
