Updates as lorry fire blocks A1 in Rutland

‘Significant damage’

Fire crews are still in attendance after receiving an initial emergency call at 5.38am today, a spokesperson has confirmed. A total of six appliances attended and remain at the scene. “The fire has been extinguished but it has caused significant damage to the road so the road is still closed,” LeicestershireLive has been told.

The spokesperson added that the lorry involved had been carrying pallets of sugar.

At this stage, the level of damage to the vehicle has not been confirmed.

There is no indication as to how long the road will be closed at the moment, but a recovery vehicle is on its way to the scene now.
