Watch as car gets wedged under lorry and is dragged along the A38
This is the terrifying moment a car appears to get wedged under the back of a lorry’s trailer unit and is dragged along the A38 in Burton. The truck driver appears not to know the car is struck at first after the car got too close and the bonnet gets jammed at speed under lorry’s safety bars. Eventually the silver Ford Focus breaks free and swerves onto the grass verge, and back on to the carriageway near Branston before coming to a stop.
The front of the car is caved in and badly damaged from where it got wedged under the safety bars at the back of the trailer unit know as the rear under-run. Another motorist caught the shocking footage on his dash-cam and has told how he could not believe what he was seeing as the incident unfolded on Friday, June 10. At first the driver thought the car was tailgating the lorry but to his horror he released it was trapped and being dragged along.

Then they seemed to have sped up and went into the back of the lorry and it looked like they was been pulled along by its safety bar.
“When they hit the lorry I’m assuming their airbags went off because you can see them at the end of the video in the cabin of the car. Maybe the airbags dazed the male driver which is why he kept driving after the impact. But the swerving beforehand and the crash into the lorry, and to still keep going after that, we assumed it was a drunk driver at the start but it could’ve been something medical.
“You can see a grey SUV at the end of the footage pull two lanes over and the driver of that car got out and went over to the focus and opened the drivers door and checked on the man.” Other drivers who saw the incident all stopped to check on the Focus driver and the truck also stops after realising it has been hit from behind. The driver of the Focus, miraculously seemed to be unhurt, but their car is trashed at the front.
The footage, lasting one minute and 23 seconds, was shot on the A38, Lichfield Road, heading towards Branston. The lorry stops in a layby as the Focus initially drives on before coming to a complete stop on the carriageway. The footage was taken at 1.22pm on Friday.
It is not known what happened to those inside the car – thought to be a driver and a woman passenger.
