Woman dies in crash with truck that closed A280 Long Furlong for 9 hours

Sussex Police has issued an appeal for witnesses after an 85-year-old woman was killed in a collision on the A280 at Long Furlong near Worthing yesterday afternoon (May 31). The collision involved a car and a HGV lorry which had been travelling in the opposite direction. The incident occurred at 12.18pm and closed the road until shortly before 9.30pm while accident investigation work was carried out.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area and travel using other routes. A spokesperson for Sussex Police said: “A Fiat Panda travelling southbound collided with a DAF truck travelling in the opposite direction, close to Patching. Despite the best efforts of the public and paramedics the sole occupant of the Fiat – an 85-year-old local woman – was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.
