Video footage captured the heart-stopping moment a driver smashed into a parked car at speed on a residential street and almost flipped upside-down.

The dashcam video begins with a blue Ford Mondeo driving down a 30-mph residential street on a quiet Monday morning, and passing a drain and sewer cleaning vehicle.

But the motorist appears not to notice a grey Ford Kuga parked on the side of the road and hits it, before swerving into an oncoming taxi despite there being plenty of space to overtake.

For a horrifying moment the Mondeo is suspended at a 45-degree angle in mid-air and the car almost flips on to its side as both cars are severely jolted during the high-impact crash.

The video, dating from 9.22am on July 18, shows the roof box of the moving vehicle crashing to the ground.

The driver of the Mondeo and both vehicles appear unharmed as the cars bounce back following the collision.

Sharing the clip online Jim Martin wrote: 'Not sure driving into a parked car was sensible.....

Nobody was hurt!

Driver blamed van, not vans fault clearly.'

One user commented: 'One can only imagine how many near misses they've had before this.'

Another added: 'Not only did they fail to avoid crashing into a parked vehicle, they obviously didn't secure their roof box very well!'

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: 'Police attended a road traffic collision involving two vehicles at Gibbonsdown Rise in Barry at around 9.30am on Monday 18th July.

'There is no ongoing police investigation in relation to this matter.'
