Man dies in horror South London crash with lorry
A man died in a horrific crash in South London this afternoon, after a collision with a lorry at a roundabout yesterday (July 21). The London Ambulance Service (LAS) were called at 3.06pm to reports of a serious crash on Malden Road in New Malden. A spokesperson for the LAS confirmed to My London: "We sent two ambulance crews, an incident response officer, an advanced paramedic practitioner, and a paramedic in a response car.
We also dispatched London's Air Ambulance. The first of our medics arrived at the scene in under three minutes. Sadly, a man died at the scene."
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 3.30pm. The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and there have been no arrests. The A2043 Malden Road was closed in both directions closed, but has since reopened.
There are plans for New Malden residents to pay tribute to the victim this morning with flowers. One witness told MyLondon that it was a skip lorry that hit the victim and that schoolchildren witnessed the crash. She believes the victim "stepped out from behind a bus to cross the road and the skip lorry had no chance to stop".
They continued: "I heard that the lorry driver was seen sat with the police in total shock and is devastated...My heart goes out to the driver and the school kids that witnessed it."
