We try a Somerset Wetherspoons getting mixed reviews from locals

Over the years, many residents will venture to their local Wetherspoons for some cheap food and drinks. There have been several who have moaned about portion sizes. However, for its cheap prices, you quite simply cannot complain.

During my time at university, every time I would have a long break, we would always end up in ‘Spoons’ for a pint and a meal. READ MORE: A358 Combe Florey mudslide: Councillor calls for ‘lasting response’ after road flooded twice in a month

My total order came to just under GBP7 which is fairly reasonable.

Therefore, I have had time to sample some of their finest choices. With that being said, I have not had the chance to sample its delicacies in a while.

In Taunton, there are two Wetherspoon establishments, The Coal Orchard and The Perkin Warbeck. The Perkin Warbeck used to be a popular spot during my college days as many would sink a few drinks before making the dreaded trip to Zinc. For this week’s food review, I thought I would take a step back in time and try its food.

Instead of Perkin, I ventured to Coaly. For my lunch, I ordered the southern-fired chicken and smoky chipotle mayo wrap with chips and a pint of Pepsi Max. My total order came to GBP6.55.

You never know what you are going to get with Spoons, but it is fair to say that I rather enjoyed today’s food review. The portion size was reasonable and rather filling. A perfect afternoon meal I must say.

It is definitely not up there with Papa’s Taste, but you cannot argue with Spoons’ cheap prices and cosy atmosphere. The way I see it, nothing can be as bad as the Tesco brunch menu I tasted. All in all, if you are looking for a cheap and quick bite to eat, the local Wetherspoons should be high on your list.
