We try the butcher’s award-winning steak pie that is to die for

The Bishop's Hull butchers recently struck gold in the "Taste of the West Awards" for its steak and ale pie. Across Taunton, there are several places to eat out and enjoy a nice takeaway. There may be a fair few who stick to their traditional takeaway on a Saturday night.

With that being said, if you fancy something different for dinner, Bishop's Hull butchers is thoroughly recommended. READ MORE: Police issue update after fight at Somerset McDonald's goes viral

Situated in the heart of Bishops Hull, it provide customers with a wide variety of fresh meat. However, their pies have proven to appeal to many.

On the official Taste of the West website, it describes the butchers as: "A gem of a little shop. It's off the beaten track but worth a visit. I would certainly visit again!"

Heading up to the butchers, I certainly had high hopes. I have heard good things about the establishment from many locals. You can never go wrong with a good butcher.

In my college days, there was a family-owned butcher shop near Richard Huish. For GBP3, you could get a sausage or bacon baguette with a drink and cookies. Needless to say, it was definitely popular with our year group.

The steak and ale pie cost me GBP2.60, which I must say is a very good deal. Throughout my university days, when I was too tired to make dinner, I would just stick a steak pie in the oven. So, it is fair to say that I know what a good steak pie tastes like.

If I am going to be honest, it is definitely the best steak pie I have ever tasted in my life. The one thing I usually hate about steak pies is that they usually have too much pastry. However, the Bishops Hull butchers had a good pie to steak and ale ratio which went down a real treat.

I know it sounds crazy, but if there is too much pastry, it ruins the pie.

Over the last few months, I have had a lot of success when it comes to doing food reviews, apart from Tesco, and I must admit that Bishops Hull's butchers steak and ale pie is certainly one of my favourites.
