Assistant lorry driver killed after vehicle turns turtle in Bentong

BENTONG: An assistant lorry driver died after he was pinned inside the vehicle which turned turtle here on Wednesday night.

The incident occurred as he was travelling with his partner from Genting Highlands to Kuala Lumpur.

Adnan Mat Jidin, 50, was pinned for about 40 minutes following the accident before firemen managed to free him but he was later declared dead.

The 44-year-old driver sustained injuries to his head and body.

He was driving to Batu Caves with Adnan while transporting a metal safe.

Bentong OCPD Supt Mohamad Mansor Mohamad Nor said initial investigations revealed that the driver had lost control of the lorry before it crashed and grazed a wall on the right side of the road and flipped over.

The impact caused him to be flung out of the lorry while Adnan remained stuck inside.

“The lorry has been towed to Bentong for further investigations and we have taken the driver’s blood sample for tests,” Supt Mohamad Mansor said.

The driver was sent to Hospital Bentong for treatment.

The case has been classified as causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
