A distracted truck driver was filmed driving through a red light after allegedly taking a selfie while driving on a busy motorway.

Motorcyclist Brett Mullineaux claims he spotted the tradesman playing with his phone while driving at 45mph on the M62 near Oldham, Greater Manchester, last month.

Footage shows the driver holding out the mobile phone with his right hand as he appears to grin into the camera before realising that he has been spotted by Mr Mullineaux.

Rather than being embarrassed the driver is seen showing off about getting caught and even gives the motorcyclist a sarcastic thumbs up as they come off the motorway together.

However as they approach the lights, shocking headcam footage shows the motorist so fixated on mocking Brett that he fails to see the lights are on red and ploughs through them.

Mr Mullineaux, a father-of-two, said: ‘It never ceases to amaze me.

‘Some people are brain dead and he probably wasn’t even thinking at all. That’s the problem.

‘He even gave me a thumbs up. He was actually proud of it when he caught me filming him. It’s just so annoying when drivers do this.

‘He just bombed through the red light without looking and there could easily have been somebody coming in the opposite direction. Somebody could have been killed.’

Professional welder Brett claims he often catches unsuspecting commuters apparently up to no good.

Motorcyclist Brett Mullineaux claims he spotted the tradesman playing with his phone while driving at 45 miles per hour

Brett said: ‘He was doing something like 45 miles per hour.

‘He just appeared there. I first caught sight of him in the mirrors of his truck. He was clearly playing with his phone because I could see into the car so I overtook, crossing over from the middle lane.

‘He was holding his phone up to take a selfie or something. Then he gave me the thumbs up and I made a gesture at him.

‘What gets me is they think you’re in the wrong and they give you grief. What if he knocked me off the bike?

‘Like I always say, it’s six points on your licence and a £200 fine. It’s just not worth it.

‘Hopefully he’ll see himself in the papers and on the news and he’ll think twice next time.

‘I never want people to lose their jobs, get them in trouble or drop them in it, but I just want to raise awareness about dangerous driving.’
